Business Cardboard Waste Collections
Of all the excess materials that businesses generate over time, waste cardboard is one of the easiest to dispose of and recycle. This is particularly good news when you consider that it’s one of the most widely used materials of them all, with nearly all organisations using it regularly in some way or other.
If it wasn’t so easy to recycle, there would be a significant amount of waste going straight to landfill – but you can easily boost the green credentials of your business, firstly by switching to cardboard over other materials and secondly by ensuring that you fulfil your eco obligations with cardboard recycling for a more environmentally friendly planet.
Here at SwiftSwitch, we provide our clients all over the UK with everything they need to make cardboard recycling easy and efficient, so you never need to worry about the rubbish piling up and you can get back to what’s most important… the day-to-day running of your business.
Quite simply, cardboard waste is any old pieces of thick or multilayered sheets of stiff paper, made from tree fibres – which is why it’s so easy for it to be recycled.
Recyclable cardboard waste includes paperboard (often used for juice or milk cartons), corrugated cardboard, cardboard tubes, packaging and parcels, storage boxes and food packaging.
It’s important that your cardboard waste is clean and dry if you want it to be recycled, as any wet or dirty cardboard can become contaminated, which means it ends up in the general waste stream and is consequently either incinerated or sent to landfill.
Cardboard waste collection and disposal is necessary for all kinds of businesses, irrespective of size or industry. Even if you produce minimal waste, you can still benefit from cardboard collection, although some operations – such as those in the hospitality industry, retailers and wholesalers – will likely have greater need of the service.
What’s important is to make sure that your cardboard waste doesn’t start to build up, as this can make your business premises more hazardous and increase the risk of pest infestations. It’s also very unsightly and could leave a bad impression on visiting clients.
As such, it’s advisable to enlist the help of an experienced and professional waste disposal service, which can assist you in managing your waste responsibly, ensuring that you follow the letter of the law and remain compliant, regardless of the kind of rubbish you generate.
Bear in mind, as well, that a waste transfer note will be required for every load that exits your business premises, but the SwiftSwitch team can take care of all the legalities on your behalf, freeing your time up to devote to other parts of your organisation.
Once we’ve come to your site to collect your cardboard waste, we then take it to a recycling centre where it will be sorted into flat sheets and corrugated board. The boards are then shredded into tiny pieces and turned into slurry using a mix of water and chemicals.
The resulting pulp is then mixed with new pulp made from wood chips before being processed further to get rid of any residual metals, tape, plastics and ink. From there, the pulp is dried and pressed into long sheets that are glued together to form new pieces of cardboard.
